Why Laser Hair Removal Takes Several Sessions

It comes down to how hair grows.

How Hair Grows

Hair must be in its growth stage for the laser to work, and hairs are in different stages at different times, so most people need several sessions.

Medical sources give different numbers, from 2 to 6 sessions up to 6 to 8 sessions, so our team plans yours after seeing your hair and skin.

What Results to Expect

Laser hair removal reduces hair for months or even years, but it does not stop all hair for good, and hair that grows back is usually lighter and thinner.

Laser hair removal works best on dark hair and may not work as well on blonde, gray, white or red hair.

If you get razor bumps or breakouts from shaving or waxing, dermatologists say laser hair removal may be worth considering.

The 5 Steps of Your Laser Visit

A short, clean visit in five simple steps.

Step 1 - Skin and Hair Check

We look at how thick and dark your hair is and at your skin tone, then set a safe energy level.

For darker or tanned skin, a medical review says longer laser wavelengths, gentler energy settings, longer pulses and good cooling help lower the risk of side effects.

Step 2 - Cleansing and Shaving

We clean your underarms and shave them with a new sterile blade.

Shaving and skin preparation before underarm laser hair removal

Step 3 - Clear Cooling Gel

We spread clear cooling gel evenly over both underarms before the laser.

Applying clear cooling gel before underarm laser treatment

Step 4 - Laser Treatment

The laser passes over the whole underarm with a cooled tip. Many people say the laser feels like warm pinpricks or a rubber band snapped against the skin.

Rarer side effects include blisters, burns, infection, scarring and lighter or darker patches of skin, so medical sources advise having laser hair removal only with an experienced medical provider.

Step 5 - Soothing Care

Our staff gently clean off the cooling gel and apply a soothing cream.

Before Your Visit

A few simple things to do first.

You do not need to shave before you come, because our staff shave the area for you with a new sterile blade. If you prefer, you can shave 2 to 3 days before your visit.

If you usually wax or pluck, switch to shaving before your first session and tell us when you last waxed, so we can advise on timing.

Once you start treatment, avoid waxing, plucking and tweezing the treated area.

Stay out of the sun and avoid tanning beds and self-tanners in the weeks before treatment, because tanned skin can make the laser less effective and lead to side effects.

Tell us before treatment if you take isotretinoin, scar easily or have a recent tan.

After Your Visit

Easy steps for the first day or two.

Redness and swelling are common after treatment and often look like a mild sunburn, and these minor effects usually last 1 to 3 days.

A cool compress can ease any discomfort, and most people go back to their normal activities right away.

Our aftercare asks you to skip roll-on deodorant and perfume on your underarms for 24 hours after each session.

That night, shower in room-temperature water with a gentle cleanser, and do not scrub. Use aloe vera gel or a plain moisturizer without alcohol or fragrance. Loose clothes help because they rub less.

Sun, Beaches and Travel

For people who live in Bangkok or are staying for a while.

After treatment, keep the treated skin out of direct sunlight, and on skin you expose use a broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher.

If you are in Bangkok for several months, you can book a session every 4 to 6 weeks and finish the full course.

If you are in Bangkok for a short stay, one session will not finish the course. Medical sources report about a 10% to 25% reduction in hair after the first session.

Planning a beach trip or lots of outdoor swimming? Tell us, and we will time your sessions around it.
